Time to re-engage the grey matter and start thinking about ranking factors for 2010.

Christmas is over and I don’t know about you but it flew by at our house.

Had a great time over the holiday and in between Christmas and the new year, we managed to get live the new Swann-Morton website and a full Chinese version of their product range.

So whats happening in the industry this year? well I’m predicting the new caffeine changes at Google will herald a new series of metrics being used in algorithmic search. I already discussed page speed and expect this to be among a new range of measures to help Google give us the best results it can, reduce reliance on hyperlinks and further weight factors that indicate brand.

More on that to follow soon but in the meantime, here are a few things to think about for 2010:

  1. Google has the ability to store more information about your business.
  2. It may be looking at traditional marketing as a way to demonstrate online brand.
  3. Web standards may be a bigger slice of the algorithm than ever before.
  4. Google may be looking to reduce reliance on hyperlinks and ’seo’ factors.
  5. The mantle ‘Content is king’ will be more important than ever.

All the best for 2010.
